Free Tips to Achieve High Ranking in Google

Overview: The problem is that “ranking higher” is entirely relative. You could be a new site or an SEO novice seeking to rank higher than page six for your blog article, or you could be looking to go from the sixth slot on page one to the first spot. So, in this piece, I’ll provide 17 tactics to achieve high ranking in Google, divided into three categories ranging from beginner to advanced.

How to Achieve a High Ranking on Google

You need to have a clear idea of what it is that you want to achieve high ranking in Google for first and foremost. You should also strive to achieve a high ranking for the search terms that your ideal customers are using while looking for your products or services. These are referred to as keywords, and in order to determine what it is feasible for you to rank for, you will require keyword research tools.

Aim for keywords that are realistic.

For those of you who may not be as well-versed in the area of search engine optimization (SEO), this part will mostly cover the fundamentals of SEO. If you want to rank higher, you need to make sure that these requirements are met.

Things Need to look at to find the best topics to Achieve High Ranking in Google:

Volume: The number of times a term is looked up each month.

Competition: How tough it is to easier to rank website in Google higher for that term.

How easy it will be for you to rank for keywords depends on how authoritative your domain is. It will be easier if your site has been around for a while and you’ve been posting good information for that time.

Relevance: It doesn’t make sense to achieve high ranking in Google for a keyword that won’t bring qualified people to your site.

Pro tip

If you are just getting started with your SEO strategy, your best chance is to begin with keywords that have a low volume and low competition so that you can establish traction, and then gradually work your way up from there over the course of time. Your sector will determine what “low” means, but selecting keywords from the range of 90 to 400 positions is probably a good place to begin looking.

Check the purpose of the keyword

In general, there are four main kinds of keyword intent: informational, business, transactional, and navigational. Now, when it comes to SEO, you’re mostly looking at keywords with a useful purpose. But even within your informational purpose keywords, you need to get more specific about what kind of information the person is looking for when they search that keyword.

For example, I have some screenshots of cool websites and features that I’ve collected and was looking for a phrase to use with them. I found the term “website ideas,” saw that it was searched for 2,900 times, and thought, “Perfect.” But when I Googled it, I saw that the results weren’t for businesses looking for ideas for their websites, but for side hustlers looking for their next idea or beginner coders looking for their next project.

If I try to achieve high ranking in Google for that term with screenshots of my website, I won’t be able to. But if I search for “website design ideas,” things change.

Write a Long Piece Content About It

How to get to the top of Google? Long-form, in-depth material about the keyword you’re going after. This is most obvious in blog posts, but you can also do it on landing pages.

For example, our free Website Grader landing page is on page one for the term “website grader.” At first glance, it might not look like it has much to say. But if you scroll down, you’ll find a great trove of words in the form of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

Pro tip

Remember that I said long-form, in-depth material. Google doesn’t like thin material, so skip the filler and go straight for the peanut butter.

Do your on-page SEO

This is the most important thing you can do to achieve high ranking in Google. Find out everything in my full on-page SEO guide.

The following is a quick list of tasks that need to be done:

  • Placement of keywords: Make sure your keyword is in your meta title, meta description, at least two H2s, image file names, image alt text, the URL, and naturally in the body of your page.
  • Internal linking: Make sure at least three other pages on your site link to the page.
  • External linking: Your page should have between one and three links to relevant, trusted sites.
  • Optimize your meta description by keeping it between 155 and 165 characters and telling the reader why they should click on your page.

Improve Your Google Page Rank!

So, that’s the secret to getting a good Google ranking. Perhaps, though, you have already exhausted those options. Perhaps you now have a respectable ranking but would like to improve it. If this describes you, read on.

Focus on question-based, long-tail keywords

Long-tail keywords are more likely to be in the volume/competition sweet spot, and long-tail question keywords are an added bonus because they can help you rank higher in the People Also Ask section than you would for broad, extremely high-volume keywords.

A Google search for “social media marketing” returns 32,000 results (wow). The first result is shown, while the second is Sprout Social. However, the PAA data sits awkwardly between the two groups. If a user clicks to expand one of those questions, the page that best answers that question will go to the top of the search results page.

For high-volume keywords, you never know which long-tail phrases Google will pull up in PAA, giving your content a chance to achieve high ranking in Google – higher than the #2 results.

A Word of Advice

Don’t try to manipulate Google search results by answering improperly-formatted questions (PAAs). Use long-tail question keywords instead, with the primary objective being to rank for that term and the secondary goal being to achieve high ranking in Google for some other keywords using PAA.

Make your information easy to Skimmable.

Google is focusing more and more on providing answers as opposed to simply listing pages. Hence the term “zero-click search,” in which a user can obtain the desired information directly on the results page without clicking into a specific result. This is bad news for those of us who want to increase website traffic, but if you can’t defeat ’em (Google is like Goliath on steroids), join ’em. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. Being the source from which Google builds an answer is the next best thing—and your path to a higher ranking.

Making your content scannable is the best method to optimize for this. Thus, Google can extract fragments of your content to generate answer-like results, such as with the Featured Snippet, Passage Ranking, and meta descriptions. How to do it:

Make use of heading elements. This is a feature of every website builder and content management system. Ensure that headings are enclosed in h2> and h3> elements, rather than just increasing the size and weight of the text. For instance, in our How to Brand Your Business blog post, we have a distinct H2 heading that reads “How to brand your business”, followed by H3s for each step.

Employ precise headings. Unfortunately, sometimes SEO can inhibit your creativity. A person should be able to quickly obtain answers by scanning only the article’s headings. You can see below that Google bypassed the meta description we supplied for the aforementioned post and generated its own based on the H3s:

If we had used more whimsical or flamboyant language in this post, it may not have performed as well. What do I suggest? Check out this graph:

The more straightforward it is for a reader to extract information, the simpler it is for Google as well. Use therefore lists, bullets, italics, and headings…like, a bunch.

Make explicit assertions

No, not offensive language. When you’re targeting question-specific keywords, even if you’re providing a multi-part answer, be sure to include an explicit statement that provides a clear response while also restating the question.

Below is the search engine results page for “how long should a blog post be in 2022.” The likelihood is that Hook Agency received the Featured Snippet position because it contains the sentence “The optimal blog length for SEO in 2022 is between 1,760 and 2,400 words,” whereas Wix (the number two result) answers the query without restating it.

And for “how-to” keywords, you can conclude the post with “So to recap, here’s how to [do X]:” followed by a list of the strategies or recommendations discussed in the post. An alternative would be to include an overview section at the beginning of the post that provides a bird’s-eye view before delving into each item in greater detail.

Include meaningful visuals

There are multiple methods in which including images on your page can help it to increase higher rank in Google. First, it creates more engaging content that keeps visitors on the page for longer; second, conventional search results are becoming more visual; and third, it gives your images a chance to rank in image results.

For blog posts that you want to achieve high ranking in Google higher, however, stock images and empty illustrations will not suffice. You require images that illustrate concepts, add value, and correspond to the keyword’s intent.

For instance, the search engine results page (SERP) for “January marketing ideas” is not only highly visual, but Google also gives preference to photographs of January social media posts and event landing pages.

Therefore, when you’re creating content on a keyword, Google it to determine not only how essential visuals are, but also which visuals are displaying, so that you can meet the expectations of searchers.

Pro tip

And if, as in the preceding illustration, you notice that title card images are surfacing, create one!

If your blog template already generates a header image (as WebbyAcad Digital Marketing Company), it is redundant to place it at the top of the post; instead, place it at the bottom. Or, check whether your SEO plugin (we use Yoast) allows you to upload a social image. The image will not appear within the blog post, but it will still be associated to the post and searchable.

Include a table of contents.

This is a simple aspect to include in your blog entries that Google appears to appreciate. Google frequently adds those links directly to a post’s meta description.

Here’s how to go about it:

Insert this above each of the H2 or H3s to which you wish to establish links in the HTML view of your post:

<a id =”section-title”></a>

Keep the quotation marks, and if you use more than one word, use dashes or underscores to separate them. Then, at the top of your post, create a table of contents and include a link to #section-title for each:

For example, I tagged this piece of this post as follows:

<a id=”higher”></a>

Then I linked “How to achieve high ranking in Google” to #higher at the top.

10. Your Meta Titles Borify

You read that correctly. Your SEO title, also known as the meta title, is the title that displays on the SERP. Google, like headers, does not allow for much inventiveness. A title that is comparable to what is already ranking on page one is usually the best option.

So, while your H1 title (the title that displays on the page itself) may be more colorful, keep your SEO title to 60 characters or fewer, front-load the keyword, and pay attention to modifiers that appear to be popular, such as the year in the title.

Titling this post something more imaginative like “How to Rank Higher on Google: 10 Perilous Pitfalls to Avoid” is unlikely to help it to achieve high ranking in Google.

How to Obtain the Highest Google Ranking

For ranking even higher or boosting your ranking for extremely difficult keywords.

11. Obtain backlinks

Backlinks are links to your page from other websites, and they are a significant ranking component.

Now, if you’re producing high-quality content and promoting it on social media, you might already have backlinks. However, you can also be proactive in acquiring backlinks for particular pages. Here, you can learn how to acquire backlinks.

Simply Mine your search queries

Search Console will inform you of the queries that result in people viewing your page in search results and the queries that result in clicks. This can help you discover additional headings to add to a page as well as keywords to target on their own pages. If you are already ranking unintentionally for that keyword, you will certainly rank when you target it intentionally.

“best advertising sentences” is an inquiry for which we are receiving impressions in the image below. If it’s a keyword, I might write a blog post about it or use it as the title of an existing post.

Use videos to target how-to and tutorial keywords.

Video content is becoming more and more prevalent on the SERP, and in certain situations, it may be your only chance to achieve high ranking in Google higher for a given subject. For illustration, look at the SERP for “how to advertise on Facebook.” The “top” genuine organic page result is in fact the final result on the page after advertisements, People Also Ask, Facebook’s organic result, and videos.

However, if you provide video material on the subject, you may achieve the best organic result ranking (because Facebook will always be ranked higher).

Target tutorial-related keywords instead, where videos do much better.

Target pages are already Ranked

In some cases, moving a post from position nine to position four can be easier than, say, moving it from page nine to page four. Additionally, the former will result in a significantly greater rise in traffic than the latter. If you have a huge website, filter your organic keywords by position using an SEO tool like Ahrefs or Semrush to check if you have any pages that suit this description. If so, see if you can reoptimize the page.

Conduct a SERP analysis

Again, you will require an SEO instrument for this strategy. If you really, really, really want to rank at the top of the SERPs for a particular keyword, you’ll need to conduct a SERP analysis to determine what it will take and whether it’s realistic. For instance, if I want to achieve high ranking in Google first for “small business ideas,” I can see that my competition is HubSpot, specifically a page with 4,289 backlinks from 1,200 domains on a site with a domain rating of 92.

Add Schema markup

Schema.org encoding is not a ranking factor, but it can increase your website’s visibility in search engine results and make them more clickable. Schema encoding is a method of providing Google with a more precise description of the page’s content, which can help it to reach on top ranking in Google in rich results. There are numerous categories of rich results, such as articles, breadcrumbs, events, FAQs, how-tos, job postings, FAQs, and more.

You can use Google’s Rich Result tester to determine which content on your page qualifies for Schema encoding.

Evaluate your technical SEO

There are numerous page-level optimizations you can implement to improve your ranking, such as ensuring your images are properly compressed and sized and there are no indexation problems. In Search Console, you can examine a page’s Core Web Vitals, mobile usability, and more.

In addition, be sure to conduct a manual mobile usability test, i.e., do not rely solely on Google’s mobile-friendliness validator; rather, visit the page from a mobile device to ensure that the elements are rendering correctly. There are certain items that a code-crawler cannot detect.

How to improve your Google ranking: review

And that is all. The search engine results page has come a long way from the list of 10 blue links. Google prioritizes visual, excerptable, and recent content to construct SERPs that provide immediate answers that are abundant in quality. Utilize these tactics to achieve high ranking in Google, higher, and highest so that you can establish authority in your niche and achieve your website traffic and conversion objectives.
