Veterans In Prison are angry – angry that the hidden wounded of combat related PTSD (CRPTSD) are being kept hidden – hidden in the dumping grounds of the prison system.
- Question: “What occupation guarantees thousands of its employees a unique (unknown) legacy of ‘violence and imprisonment’ once it’s finished with their employment”?
- Answer “A career with the British Army – it knowingly keeps hidden the pitfalls of ‘life sentences of imprisonment’ for thousands of its troops/veterans after their service in wars/conflicts”!
What other message can these high numbers of ex-soldiers languishing in the prison population be sending – when ex–soldiers are at least 10x higher than both Royal Navy and RAF personnel combined, and more excessive in numbers than any other profession in the entire prison system!
Staggeringly the tragedy that these ex-soldiers in the prison are conveying – are that the best part of around 7,000 ex-soldiers (8.9% of the prison population) are hidden victims of their own military service experiences, because psychological problems such as CRPTSD are more widespread amongst ex-soldiers than anyone can imagine – and these damning figures in the prison system are proof of this ongoing disaster!
Imagine thousands of British soldiers (a whole brigade) being wiped out by an unseen enemy in action and nothing being done about it – not even an inquiry into the circumstances? The country would be horrified – yet this amount of soldiers coming our of wars/conflicts and ending up inside the prison system is the equivalent of this missing Brigade of soldiers – and the government are doing absolutely nothing about it other than pretend that these ex-soldiers are not in the prisons!
Scandalously over the years many thousands of ex-soldiers have ended up abandoned in the prison population – all classed and treated as criminals by the Justice system. A justice system that’s ultimately betrayed these ‘psychological casualties’ of wars/conflicts – because it could not be bothered to check if they were suffering CRPTSD at the time of their trials!
Consequently whenever troops/veterans are sentenced to imprisonment at Crown or Magistrates Courts, and they are not checked for the mitigating circumstances of CRPTSD – they become one more statistic added to the statistics of the wars/conflicts in which they served, all of them victims, all of them betrayed and all of them denied Justice!
Therefore VIP want to know what the Government are going to do about this catastrophe – and besides why should anyone in their right minds knowingly volunteer to a career of imprisonment because of their Service to their Country?
Footnote A brigade consists of around 5,000 soldiers (3 or 4 Battalions), so in reality there are more ex-soldiers inside the prison system than an entire Brigade – frightening isn’t it?!
